125 Years in the Making: A Conversation with TMA’s Directors

Join current TMA Director Adam Levine and immediate past Director Brian Kennedy for a candid conversation reflecting on leadership, legacy, and the evolution of the Toledo Museum of Art. Moderated by Libbey Inc. CEO and TMA Board of Directors member Mike Bauer, they will explore pivotal moments from the museum’s past and the perspectives shaping its future as TMA celebrates its 125th anniversary.

Adam M. Levine is the Edward Drummond and Florence Scott Libbey Director of the Toledo Museum of Art, where he has led a period of significant growth and transformation since 2020. A scholar of ancient art, he is known for advancing major initiatives that enhance accessibility, expand the collection, and reimagine the museum experience.

Prior to his current role, Levine held leadership positions at TMA and served as Director and CEO of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens. He also serves on the University of Toledo Board of Trustees and is a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute. Please click read the full bio

 

Brian Kennedy is a leadership consultant and adviser to philanthropists and arts organizations. He is widely published and is a recognized thought leader in visual and multi-sensory literacy, and on creative aging for older adults. Since 2021, he has been an adviser to E.A. Michelson Philanthropy on Vitality Arts, a major funding initiative to promote creative aging and address ageism in U.S. art museums. Brian received degrees in art history and history at University College Dublin (BA, MA, PhD). He was assistant director of the National Gallery of Ireland, and then director of the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra), the Hood Museum of Art (Dartmouth College, New Hampshire), the Toledo Museum of Art (Toledo, Ohio) and the Peabody Essex Museum (Salem, Massachusetts). He is an Atlantic Fellow at Trinity College Dublin, where he worked in 2024-25 in the Global Brain Health Institute.
