On Good Friday, guests will reflect on the story of Christ through four works from the Museum’s European collection. Led by Dr. Megan Reddicks Pignataro, Curatorial Research Associate of European Art, this focused gallery tour traces the arc from The Agony in the Garden to The Risen Christ, exploring how artists across centuries visualized suffering, sacrifice, and hope.
Through paintings by Valentin Lendenstreich, Andrea di Bartolo, Jacobello del Fiore, and Andreas Frosch, the tour considers how depictions of Christ shaped and reflected religious life, politics, and cultural identity during the Renaissance period in Europe. It is an opportunity to consider how art has carried the story of the Passion across time and what these images continue to reveal.
Megan Reddicks Pignataro earned her MA in Art History at the University of Toronto in 2011 and her PhD in Art History from Temple University in 2023. She is a specialist in art from the Middle Ages to the Baroque era, particularly Italy.
