Join the Toledo Museum of Art Library & Archives for an engaging book club discussion of Tracy Chevalier’s latest best-selling historical novel. This captivating story follows a family of glassmakers from Renaissance-era Italy to the present day.
Venice in 1486 is a thriving trade center. Orsola Rosso, the eldest daughter of a Murano glassblowing family, defies societal norms to pursue her passion for glassmaking after her father’s death. Her creations help support the family through creative triumphs and heartbreaking losses, including a devastating plague, the city’s decline, and its subsequent rebirth as a vibrant tourist destination.
The Glassmaker crafts a mesmerizing portrait of a woman, her family, and the timeless artistry of glassmaking.
Attendees are invited to a docent-led tour of the museum’s world-renowned glass collection on Friday, September 26, at 5:30 p.m. The tour will meet in the Glass Pavilion.
