Ruysch in the Round; Music Inspired by Art

Friday, May 16 | 6:00p.m. | Great Gallery

Doors Open at 5:00p.m.

Experience an enchanting evening of music and art as the Toledo Alliance for the Performing Arts presents Ruysch in the Round. This special performance celebrates the beauty of nature through music, inspired by Rachel Ruysch: Nature into Art, the Toledo Museum of Art’s exhibition dedicated to the legendary Dutch still-life painter.

Featuring a string quartet with an extensive repertoire spanning from the late 1600s to the present day, this program includes works by renowned women composers, as well as pieces that evoke the floral and botanical themes central to Ruysch’s artistry. The performance will weave together compositions that reflect the lush, intricate, and sometimes surreal arrangements found in Ruysch’s paintings.

Following the performance, members of the curatorial team will be available in the galleries to offer insights and engage in discussion about the exhibition, providing a deeper appreciation for the connections between music and visual art.

A Few Highlights of the Evening's Program:
  • Antonio Vivaldi: Selections from The Four Seasons
  • Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre: Three Minuets
  • Lili Boulanger: From an Old Garden
  • Claude Debussy: Clair de Lune
  • Louis Armstrong: What a Wonderful World
An unforgettable evening where music and art intertwine, offering a multisensory experience that brings Ruysch’s world to life through sound.
