Aligning Body & Film: Yoga Experience with Holly Strawbridge
Saturday, March 8 | 11:00a.m.–12:30p.m. | GlasSalon
Film: Three Overlooked Women Filmmakers, #2 by Sabrina Gschwandtner

Take a moment to flow, breathe, and connect with yourself through an all-levels yoga practice set to a work in the Museum's collection; Three Overlooked Women Filmmakers by Sabrina Gschwandtner. This inspiring experience honors International Women’s Day by quilting our community together with gentle movement and meditation, highlighting women’s powerful contributions to film and the arts.

Whether you’re new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, this practice is designed for everyone—offering modifications for all abilities, including those with limited mobility who can practice from a seated position. Door open at 11:00am, movement will begin at 11:15am and flow until 12:15pm, leaving time to join in the meditative experience of the film afterwards.

Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and wear comfortable clothes to enjoy the experience fully. For extra comfort, additional cushions will also be available for the first 30 participants.

Holly Strawbridge is a mindfulness instructor at Finding You Psychotherapy & Yoga, as well as other various locations, 200HR registered yoga teacher, 50HR Yin Yoga certified teacher, and sound-healing practitioner based in Toledo, OH. Featured Work: Sabrina Gschwandtner, (American, b. 1977), Three Overlooked Women Filmmakers, #2, 2022, video, color, silent, Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Barber Art Fund, 2024.32

While artist Sabrina Gschwandtner has always pieced together film frames to highlight undervalued and often forgotten histories of women’s handcraft, Three Overlooked Women Filmmakers is a rare opportunity to see film brought to life. This work features excerpts by directors Alice Guy-Blache (Loie Fuller’s Serpentine Dance, 1897), Marion E. Wong (The Curse of Quon Gwon: When the Far East Mingles With the West, 1917), and Lotte Reiniger (Cinderella, 1922), demonstrating that women have been critical participants in film history since the beginning. Highlighting three distinct forms of movement through acting, dance, and stop-motion animation, this film shares their stories for viewers today.

This event is free to everyone and advanced registration is required. Celebrate International Women's Day at TMA by attending this experience and other offerings at the Museum on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
