This workshop is a double win! In this course we will combine a study of hot glass color application techniques with an exploration of cold working methods to transform traditional glass shapes into unconventional objects. In the hot shop students will learn about various ways to apply color including color drops, cane, and stuff-cups to create traditionally blown glass objects. These pieces will then be taken into the cold shop to be deconstructed, carved/engraved, and developed into unique sculptural forms. In the cold shop we will cover various machines including the wet saw, slurry grinder, diamond carving tools, and the sandblaster. By experimenting with hot and cold glass working processes in concert, students will leave the class with a deeper understanding of the material and it’s possibilities for artistic expression!
