Glass has been a vital material for technological innovation for thousands of years. In this class, students will call back to industrial processes and uses of glass as inspiration for sculptural experimentation. Starting with Roman inventions, the rondel, and the Roman bottle, we'll glean inspiration from many eras of glass production. Students will draw on Toledo's long history of industrial glassmaking, looking at the evolution of sheet glass production, from Luber's draw to the cylinder method, mimicking and reimagining the process. During the week, students will explore any or all of these techniques in quick succession, learning intimate secrets about the material while adventuring though history.
TMA offers full and partial scholarships for glass studio master classes. Access the scholarship application form here. Completed scholarship applications for glass studio master classes must be received by March 30, 2024. Students applying for a scholarship cannot register for class in advance.
