Whether you are a conceptual artist or dedicated crafter, starting from a blank slate is often the most challenging step along the design process. Rather than wait for the mythological moment of divine intervention, students will explore the halls of the legendary Toledo Museum of Art, stuffed with masterpieces of all media in search of a good idea or two. Each day students will explore a section of the museum with sketchbooks in hand and intuitively gravitate towards the specific works that speak to each of us. Students will bring that inspiration into the glass studios for a symphony of collaboration, material experimentation and project oriented demonstrations. Together, students will adopt and invent appropriate tools and techniques using furnaces, torches, kilns, and lathes to give a new life to borrowed ideas.
TMA offers full and partial scholarships for glass studio master classes. Access the scholarship application form here. Completed scholarship applications for glass studio master classes must be received by March 30, 2024. Students applying for a scholarship cannot register for class in advance.
