Prerequisite: Glass III or Equivalent
Technique(s): Glassblowing: Venetian-style goblets
"Embracing Failure" will give intermediate to advanced students looking to build skill and have fun creating Venetian-style goblets. Class discussion and demonstrations will focus not only on the how and why of each part of the goblet making process, but more importantly dealing with the "make it or break it" decisions that make goblet making so exciting. Beginning with basic cup forms demonstrations will increase in complexity utilizing different equipment for assembly. Along the way, critical analysis of failures will provide valuable insight into the materials habits and how to react to them. Students will leave with a new and improved understanding of the goblet making process, but more importantly, the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that allow a maker to continue learning and growing long after the class has ended.
